Born in 2014, UnRepresented: KL (“UnR”) brings together writers with the curiosity and keenness to explore the various unrepresented narratives within the city’s physical and social boundaries.

In a city’s sea of humanity, multiple narratives go unnoticed, whether by chance or deliberate intervention.  Political, social, economic and cultural forces collide to form narratives that are powerful in what they attempt to project, and what they conceal or suppress. If one's story prevails in the collective imagery, one is acknowledged and present—in essence, represented. Kuala Lumpur is a rich landscape for stories inspired by unrepresented individuals and communities living in the city and the experiences that they embody. We seek to bring attention to these stories through the craft of writing.

After a brief hiatus, UnR is back in 2019 with its fifth edition, UnR5. UnR5 is supported by REXKL and the Consortium on Forced Migration, Displacement and Education.
