Got questions about UnR? Read on for troubleshooting assistance and contact us at unrepresented.kl@gmail.com for any further enquiries.
Q: What do you mean by unrepresented narratives?
A: In short, narratives that sometimes are forgotten, less spoken of or glossed over, for many reasons. The term is intended to be open to interpretation. In the past, pursuing unrepresented narratives led our writers to explore topics such as family history, disabilities, migration, forced displacement, the secret life of lawyers, death and loss, bullying, sexual orientation, gender identity, urban history, social alienation, the voices of animals...
Q: Is UnR only for experienced writers/poets/playwrights?
A: Not at all! We have always admitted cohorts with varied degrees of writing experience. More than experience, we value interest and keenness to be part of the exploring, discussing and writing (and rewriting) that are central to UnR.
Q: The upcoming edition is the fifth? But I swear I saw a call for applications for UnR5 last year...
A: Your memory serves you right. Last year our plan for UnR5 had to be shelved because our efforts at publicity were wanting, and we received an insufficient number of applications. But in hindsight that lesson served us well, and now we have things like a website and publicity strategy.
Q: I am not Malaysian and/or know close to nothing about KL. Is this programme meant for someone like me?
A: It definitely is. We do not expect participants to know KL like the back of their hand.
Q: Is there an age limit?
A: There is no upper age limit. However, because many of our activities require a degree of self-direction without the need for supervision, we cannot admit legal minors. All applicants must be at least 18 years old.
Q: I cannot attend all the sessions. Help!
A: If you are really interested in UnR, apply anyway. But if you can't make it to more than two sessions, this might not be the year for you to join. But please do apply to our future editions!
Q: I have a disability and would need assistance in certain aspects of the program. How can you help me?
A: We are ready to assist as best as we can. In these situations, we would learn from you on how best we could make UnR aligned to your reality. Drop us a note through the 'Contact Us' form and we can discuss further.
